| Industrial Landscapes Industrial landscapes capture the rust, decay and strange beauty of the Rust Belt. I am fascinated by the vast scale of these factories, foundries, power plants, blast furnaces, silos, tanks and cooling towers which have a poetry and grandeur . They are at once both ugly and beautiful. Cleveland's Flats My approach to these landscapes is to reveal the sweeping embrace of whole valleys of manufacturing, steelworks and smokestacks in Cleveland's Industrial Flats which appear today much as they did a century ago. It is my attempt to document the steel industry's waning power here before it disappears into rust and scrap. Photo-Etching I employ a photo-etching technique to interpret industrial landscapes because it brings out an historical and timeless quality to my work. The medium of photo-etching is a digital process that begins with photography and recreates the etching and embossing effects of manually printing on canvas & paper. |
